"The 2026 Community Satisfaction Survey shows encouraging improvements across a range of Council services and facilities. While there is always more work to do, these results indicate that the investments and improvements made in recent years are having a positive impact for our community. Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback. Your input helps us prioritise future improvements and deliver the services that matter most to our residents." –James Roncon, General Manager.
Community confidence in Armidale Regional Council continues to grow, with the 2026 Community Satisfaction Survey showing significant improvements in resident satisfaction across a range of Council services and facilities since 2023. The independent survey conducted by Taverner Research between 28 April and 13 May 2026 of 400 residents found overall satisfaction has increased with a number of services now meeting or exceeding regional NSW benchmarks (35 councils compared) and strong gains recorded in areas such as Council management, community consultation, planning services and economic development.
The results reflect a positive trend in community perceptions and provide evidence that Council's ongoing efforts to improve service delivery, engage with residents and invest in local infrastructure are making a difference. Importantly, the continued improvement since 2021 also aligns with Council's commitment to building a values-based organisational culture focused on accountability, respect, collaboration and customer service, helping to strengthen community trust and deliver better outcomes for the region.
While the survey identified areas where further improvement is needed, it highlights a growing level of confidence in Council's performance and demonstrates that Armidale Regional Council is continuing to move in the right direction.
Overall community satisfaction
The most significant finding is the improvement in overall satisfaction with Council's performance:
Overall satisfaction increased from a mean score of 2.76 in 2023 to 3.07 in 2026 on a 5-point scale. Where 1 means poor and 5 is excellent.
The proportion of residents giving positive ratings increased by around 10 percentage points.
Community satisfaction is now broadly on par with the average of regional NSW councils, whereas previous surveys showed Council lagging behind its peers.
