At the Ordinary Council meeting 25 March 2026, Council endorsed the Draft Armidale Regional Airport Masterplan for public exhibition for a period of not less than 28 days.

Background

Armidale Regional Council last adopted an Airport Masterplan in December 2016.

This important strategic document required updating and alignment to the Advancing Our Region Community Plan 2025-2034 and Councils Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) Beyond 50,000 in order to guide the efficient ongoing operation of the Armidale Regional Airport and inform the sustainable improvements and development of the airport infrastructure.

The Armidale Regional Airport is a key regional service, providing regional connections to a catchment of more than 75,000 people across the New England area. It is also a critical aerial firefighting base for northern NSW.

Discussion

To ensure the Armidale Region achieves its strategic objectives, it is vital that the Airport Masterplan provides a clear framework for the future planning and development of the Armidale Regional Airport. The masterplan will also provide guidance on the future commercialisation of the airport and surrounding precinct.

A stakeholder engagement plan was developed to provide key stakeholders with the opportunity to provide input into the Airport masterplan.

This Draft Armidale Regional Airport Masterplan has been informed by consultation which occurred between January and March 2025.
