Council maintains a strong commitment to embedding effective risk management into all activities and as such is a core responsibility of management.

This document outlines a high-level approach to ensure decisions are made with an understanding of Council’s risk environment and to facilitate the taking of risks and capitalising on opportunities, within council’s risk appetite, to assist Council meet its strategic objectives.

The objectives of this policy are to facilitate Council striking a balance between risk management and opportunity taking, whilst achieving the objectives set out in Council’s strategic plan by:

  1. Ensuring Enterprise-Wide Risk Management is integrated into Council’s strategic and operational planning processes in order to avoid, eliminate or minimise harm and/or loss.
  2. Supporting and enabling effective delivery of equitable and appropriate services and facilities for the community whilst creating an environment of innovation and business improvement
  3. Implementing risk management practices that lead to a risk aware culture
  4. Having regard to long-term and cumulative commitments by Council to environment, economic, social and governance objectives aligned with its Integrated Planning and Reporting framework.

The draft Risk Management Policy is on public exhibition from Wednesday 4 November 2020 to Tuesday 1 December 2020. Hard copies are available at Council's Administration Offices.

Submissions are invited and must be addressed to the CEO, Armidale Regional Council, PO Box 75A, Armidale, NSW 2350, or sent by email to council@armidale.nsw.gov.au. Submissions must be received by Council no later than 5pm on Tuesday 1 December 2020.

Please be aware that if you make a submission, other people may have access to your comments. This may be as a result of a report to a Council meeting or as part of an application under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009. Also, under State legislation, any person making a submission on a Draft LEP amendment must also disclose whether they or an ‘associate’ have made a ‘reportable political donation’ or gift to a local Councillor or Council employee within the period commencing two years before any submission is made and ending when the Draft LEP is determined. Further details including disclosure forms are available on request from Council.
