The unique climate, landscapes, waterways and wildlife of our region are intrinsic to our culture and character and are the basis for much of our economic and recreational activity. The quality of our air, water, flora and soils are also inextricably linked to our health and well-being.

Our region boasts beautiful natural resources to enjoy and preserve including mountain ranges, gorges, lagoons, grazing lands, national parks and waterways.

Our natural environment in so many unique forms is the defining characteristic of our city, towns and villages and is undoubtedly a way in which our communities are commonly identified by others and how we identify ourselves.

Balancing our natural environment, built environments and ever-advancing lifestyles and technologies in a productive and sustainable way is a key challenge for our community.
