Council endorsed at its meeting held on 26 April 2023 to place on public exhibition for 28 days the reviewed Property Address and Naming and Roads and Places Policy (Policy) and the Register of Pre-Endorsed Road and Place Names (Register).

The amendments to the Policy facilitate ‘housekeeping’ changes which are considered necessary to reflect issues which have arisen since the Policy was last adopted by Council in May 2021.

The amendments to the Register facilitated the removal of road names that have been used in subdivisions since the Register was last adopted by Council in May 2021.

Council is seeking submissions from the community on review of the Policy and Register.

Specifically, Council is seeking names to be considered for inclusion in the Register – names of early settlers, war servicemen and women and other persons who have contributed to the heritage of an area, local history themes, flora, fauna, multicultural heritage and Aboriginal names. Detailed criteria for new names can be found in the NSW Address Policy & User Manual (pg 96-97, Item 6.7.2 ‘Principles of Road Naming – Language; pg 99, Item 6.7.4 – Uniqueness Duplication; and pg 101 Item 6.7.6 Commemorative Road Names). Supporting documentation must be included on why this name should be considered. Any submission received without supporting documentation will not be considered.

Submissions are invited and must be addressed to the General Manager, Armidale Regional Council, PO Box 75A, Armidale, NSW 2350, or sent by email to council@armidale.nsw.gov.au.

and marked either:

  1. ‘Submission on Property Address and Naming and Roads and Places Policy’; or
  2. ‘Submission on Register of Pre-Endorsed Road and Place Names’; or
  3. ‘Submission of new name for Register of Pre-Endorsed Road and Place Names’.

For further information, please contact Kylie Steel, Land Information Officer on 02 6770 3653 or ksteel@armidale.nsw.gov.au

Submissions must be received by Tuesday 31 October 2023.

Please be aware that if you make a submission, other people may have access to your comments. This may be as a result of a report to a Council meeting or as part of an application under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009. Also, under State legislation, any person making a submission on a Draft LEP amendment must also disclose whether they or an ‘associate’ have made a ‘reportable political donation’ or gift to a local Councillor or Council employee within the period commencing two years before any submission is made and ending when the Draft LEP is determined. Further details including disclosure forms are available on request from Council.
