Seeking Expressions of Interest from Aboriginal artists
Armidale Regional Council is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from individual Aboriginal Artists and Artists groups who can create a cohesive design to apply to the entry to Armidale signs.
In November 2024, Council resolved to erect signage at the entrances to the Armidale township, acknowledging Armidale as the Ancestral Home of the Anaiwan people. This acknowledgement signage is to incorporate a design by the community to acknowledge and celebrate our local Aboriginal culture.
Armidale Local Government Area is in the New England region of New South Wales. It has a population of approximately 29,500. Armidale has become a melting pot of culture, art, history, entertainment and adventure, and has an Indigenous population of approximately 8,000 people.
Overview
Armidale Regional Council is looking to add Indigenous artwork to the entrance signs to Armidale City to acknowledge Armidale as the ancestral home of the Anaiwan people and to celebrate the history and the Culture of Aboriginal People in the Armidale Region.
This has raised an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal Artist or Artist Team to submit their expressions of interest for the preparation and submission of detailed designs that will be featured in the signage at the entrances to the city.
Intent
The EOI aims to find an Aboriginal Artist or Artist Team who can create a cohesive art piece that can be applied to signs at the entrances of Armidale city. It is intended that the successful applicant will proceed to stage two for the design process.
