What is Active Transport?
Active transport refers to the use of physical activity, such as walking, cycling, and/or mobility scooter as a mode of transportation. It involves the promotion and design of infrastructure that supports and encourages active modes of transport, such as footpaths, bike lanes, and shared-use paths. The goal of active transport in cities is to reduce reliance on single-occupancy vehicles, decrease traffic congestion and air pollution, improve public health outcomes, and enhance the livability of urban areas.
Project Background
The Active Transport Strategy will incorporate Armidale, Guyra and its surrounding villages. This strategy will give Council a strategic direction moving forward for investment in infrastructure that promotes Active Transport within the community, including a prioritised list of improvements for the pedestrian and cycling network.
